What is Lining Fabric?

Lining is an additional inner layer or sheet added to the inside of clothing or textile products. The primary function of lining is to conceal the seams of the garment, add extra durability to the clothing, and make the inside of the garment more comfortable. Here are some important functions of lining:

  1. Seam Concealment: Lining hides the seams on the inner surface of outerwear garments. This makes the outer surface of the garment look cleaner and neater. It also reduces the contact of seams with the skin, providing a more comfortable wearing experience.

  2. Enhancing Durability: Lining adds an extra layer to the garment, thereby increasing its durability. Especially in outerwear products, lining makes the clothing more resistant to wear and tear.

  3. Interior Comfort: Lining smoothes the inner surface of the garment and reduces the contact of seams with the skin. This makes wearing the garment more comfortable and prevents skin irritation.

  4. Protective Layer: Lining can protect the inner side of outerwear garments from external elements. For example, in jackets, lining can add properties such as water or wind resistance to the clothing.

  5. Color Coordination: Lining can provide an interior color that complements the outer color of the garment. This enhances the aesthetic appearance of the inner side of the clothing.

Linings are typically made from lightweight fabrics and are added to the inside of the outer garment during the sewing process. They are commonly used in outerwear products but can also be used in some innerwear items. The type of lining used can vary depending on the garment or product it is used for.
